Curriculum Overview

Risk management is an interdisciplinary subject, so students are expected to be equipped with Statistics, Finance, Mathematics, Economics and Computer Science knowledge, among others.
Core courses focus on fundamental concepts and theories in risk management. Introductory level courses discuss the multiple roles of risk in insurance and financial applications, and current risk measures. More advanced courses present simulation methods and applications of these methods to derivative security pricing.
Students can select from a wide range of Electives to fit with their interest and career goals. A selection of the courses offered are calculus for finance and risk, statistical modelling, categorical data analysis and applications of data structure. In addition, research-based projects and industrial internships serve to provide a bridge between classroom and real-world business, enhancing students’ research capabilities and communication skills.

There is one enrichment stream in the Risk Management Science Programme: Risk Analytics Stream. Students who got a total score of 30 or above in best five DSE subjects or have obtained a cumulative GPA of 3.7 or above in the first or second year of attendance may apply for specializing in the Risk Analytics Stream.

  • A Risk Analytics Stream student who pursues a second Major in Statistics can be exempted from taking STAT2011 by taking either RMSC4112 or 4212.  Units earned can be counted towards both Major Programmes.
